Set up in 1963 as a Welfare Project for Government employees and public at large. The society is registered under MSCS Act 2002. The Society has network of 145 branches/stores all over the country including 14 Regional Offices. In addition, we have 06 Chemist Shops/Jan Aushadhi outlets.
The main purpose of the organisation is to provide quality goods at reasonable rates, always lower than MRP.
It is operating on self sustaining basis without receiving any monetary aid, assistance or grant from anywhere.
GoI is one of the members of the Society holding 67.63% shares. Other than govt., there are 93445 members out of which 10741 individual members are in service. As per Section 31 of MSCS Act 2002 (as amended), each member has one vote.
Kendriya Bhandar is managed by a Board of Directors comprising of 14 members, 9 elected, 3 nominated, 1 Co-opted and 1 Managing Director. The Board is accountable to the General Body, an ultimate authority as per Section 38(2) of the MSCS Act, 2002.
Elections of the Society were last held on 1st September, 2022 with a term of five years.
Affordable Consumer Goods: To procure, distribute, and market foodstuffs, essential commodities, and household items at reasonable prices through its outlets in Bhubaneswar and other parts of Odisha.
Retail & Wholesale Services: To operate fair price shops, supermarkets, and departmental stores across the state, making quality products accessible to consumers.
Support to Government Offices: To supply stationery, office equipment, and essential materials to Government departments, offices, and institutions in Odisha.
Local Production & Processing: To encourage and support manufacturing/processing units in Odisha for consumer goods that directly benefit employees and the local community.
Service Facilities: To provide repair and servicing facilities for consumer articles commonly required in the region.
Promotion of Cooperative Values: To foster thrift, self-help, and cooperation among members in Odisha.
To receive deposits, including trade deposits and loans, from members, cooperative financing agencies, approved banks, and Government institutions operating within the state.
To accept agency of any person or firm for wholesale and retail business across Odisha.
To acquire land, buildings, vehicles, factories, workshops, machinery, and equipment to strengthen our operations in the region.
To import goods directly or through authorized agents to ensure the availability of quality products in Odisha.
To undertake welfare activities for members, employees, and their children in Odisha, promoting social and economic well-being.
To become a member of Cooperative Banks or other Cooperative Societies in Odisha and purchase shares to enhance cooperative growth.
To carry out all such activities as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of these objectives within Odisha.
